Course Content

In this course, you’ll build practical, hands-on skills and knowledge to respond confidently to a wide range of first aid situations at work, home or in the community.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Apply the DRSABCD action plan in line with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines
  • Perform CPR for at least two minutes on both adult and infant manikins
  • Respond appropriately if a casualty vomits or regurgitates
  • Manage an unconscious but breathing casualty
  • Use an AED and follow its prompts
  • Work effectively as part of a rescue team, including rotating roles with minimal pauses in compressions
  • Take part in at least one realistic first aid scenario tailored to your workplace or community setting
  • Apply safe manual handling techniques
  • Give a clear verbal or written incident report after an emergency

You’ll also develop essential knowledge around:

  • Current state and territory first aid regulations, codes of practice and ARC guidelines
  • Safe work practices to manage hazards and risks during emergencies
  • Infection control and hygiene, including standard precautions
  • How to keep your first aid skills current
  • Legal and ethical responsibilities, including duty of care, consent, privacy and confidentiality
  • Respectful and calm behaviour when supporting a casualty
  • The importance of debriefing and self-care after an incident
  • When and how to manage your own stress or seek support

We’ll also look at the key principles behind CPR, including:

  • How body position affects breathing and airway obstruction
  • When to start and stop CPR
  • Using an AED safely and effectively
  • The chain of survival and why early action saves lives

And to round it out, you’ll explore the basic anatomy and physiology you need to recognise abnormal breathing, understand the role of the chest and airway, and see how body position can impact response and recovery.

For more information about your rights, responsibilities and available support, please refer to our Student Handbook.

Course FAQ

Is this the right First Aid course for me?

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is the nationally recognised course for anyone who needs to meet workplace requirements or simply wants to know how to respond in an emergency. It includes CPR (HLTAID009) and covers the full range of first aid skills used in real-life situations.

How long does the First Aid course take?

Our X-press format keeps it short and practical. You’ll complete a learner-paced online pre-learning module before attending a 3 hour face-to-face session. The focus is on you becoming confident with latest skills and techniques with hands-on practice and real-world scenarios, not long lectures.

How often do I need to renew my First Aid certificate?

First Aid certificates are valid for three years, while CPR (HLTAID009) should be refreshed every 12 months to stay current with the latest Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.

Can you deliver the course at my workplace?

Absolutely. We specialise in on-site group training across Brisbane and South East Queensland. It’s the easiest way to get your whole team certified, with training more tailored to your industry and minimal downtime.

How much does the course cost?

Individual course prices are listed in our website course information and booking page. For group bookings, complete our group booking enquiry form for minimum onsite booking pricing and large group discounts.

What will I learn in the First Aid course?

In the Provide First Aid course you’ll learn how to assess situations, manage casualties, perform CPR, use an AED, and treat a wide range of injuries and medical emergencies. For full details, see the Course Content section above.

Is the online pre-learning compulsory?

Yes, there’s a short online pre-course module that covers theory and key knowledge areas. It’s self-paced and can be completed anytime before your practical session.

Who delivers the training?

Our courses are delivered by qualified, experienced trainers who bring real-world first aid and emergency experience into every session. We keep things engaging, supportive and hands-on.

When will I get my certificate?

You’ll receive your digital Statement of Attainment within 24 hours of completing all assessments, which is usually at the completion of the practical session unless you still have remaining online assessment tasks. Perfect if you need it fast for work or compliance.

What should I wear or bring to my First Aid course?

Wear comfortable clothes that allow you to kneel on the floor for CPR practice and a snack in case you get hungry. Everything else is provided.

Do you run weekend or after-hours classes?

For onsite groups, we can come to you 24/7 — yes, at any time and day that suits your teams schedule best, and for no extra cost!

For up-to-date info on our public course schedule check the course information and booking pages on our website.

What are the physical requirements for CPR?

To be marked competent, you’ll need to perform at least two minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult manikin placed on the floor. This means kneeling and performing chest compressions and breaths from the correct position.

These are national assessment requirements, so every participant must complete them to achieve their CPR certification.

What if I’m injured or can’t get onto the floor?

If you have an injury, mobility limitation or medical condition that affects your ability to kneel or get to the floor safely, please call us before booking. We can make reasonable adjustments to help you get down and back up safely, but we can’t alter the assessment itself.

If you’re currently injured or unable to perform CPR on the floor without pain or risk, we’ll recommend waiting until you’ve recovered before completing your training. We’re always happy to chat about your situation and help you plan ahead.

Is your course the best choice for me?

If you want training that’s fast, practical and actually enjoyable, you’ll love our X-press format. We know your time is valuable, so every course is designed to be time-smart and hands-on, focusing on the real skills that matter most in an emergency — not hours of forgettable theory.

You’ll complete a short, flexible online pre-learning module, then take part in a focused, engaging practical session led by an experienced, dynamic and friendly TEAM trainer who brings real-world know-how and plenty of energy.

Our public course sessions are held in remium venues, with heaps of space and we don’t over crowd sessions to make sure things stay friendly and individualised.

Certificates are issued within 24 hours, and our process is completely paper-free — so getting qualified or re-certified is as easy and pain-free as possible.

What’s different about Team First Aid compared to other training providers?

Most training organisations deliver the same nationally recognised first aid units — but what makes us different is how we deliver them.

Our sessions are built for busy people and teams who still want genuine, hands-on learning. We keep classes active, relevant and practical, not long and lecture-heavy. You’ll walk away confident, not confused.

Behind the scenes, we’ve made everything simple — easy online enrolment, lerner-paced assessments, fast certificate turnaround, local Brisbane trainers, and a focus on customer service where larger providers sometimes fall short.

That’s why hundreds of schools, childcare centres and businesses trust Team First Aid every year to keep their staff compliant, confident and emergency-ready.
